In this post I will highlight my favorite items to maintain a fresh, soft, and build up free diaper.</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><span style="color: #351c75;"> </span><span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Oxygenated/Fragrance Free Detergent</span></span><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="color: #38761d;"> </span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Locating "oxygenated soap" is key to maintaining clarity and freshness in your cloth diapers. Only use a 1/4 of the amount of detergent called for according to load size.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">Baking Soda</span><span style="font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Baking soda is a household deodorizer and works equally well in the laundry. It is also a non-abusive fabric softener. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"> Black Soap/Castile Soap/Dish Detergent</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">All these soaps are useful for pre-washing diapers and heavily soiled clothing. Best of all only a couple of drops are needed to get the job done.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">Essential Oils</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Since dryer sheets are a huge NO for cloth diapers essential oils are a great alternative to smell good laundry. Use directly in the washing water or sprinkle several drops on cotton balls and seal in an organza pouch and toss in the dryer. Do not over do it; essential oils have the potential to stain.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">Sun</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">In my experience sun bathing diapers works tremendously well for expelling odors and stains. The sun holds antifungal, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties just to name a few. Dry diapers for a cycle in the dryer and allow to finish drying in the sun.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">There it is, simple as pie.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: large;">What products do you use to keep your diapers fresh and clean?</span></div>

Given I am a first time mother and certainly not yet a pro, but, I can proudly say my child was fully potty trained by 20 months. By that I mean using the bathroom in public, through day naps and on occasion at night.</span><div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Personally I feel that was an incredible feat for a little one not yet turned two years old, however, p</span><span style="font-size: large;">lease keep in mind every child is different and you have to work with your personal schedule to achieve consistency and success.</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Below I've listed 9 pointers that worked for my household; hopefully you will find them helpful as well.</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">9 Steps to Potty Training Success</span></h4>
<div>
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #741b47; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">1.</span><span style="font-size: large;"> Inform: Introduce the potty to your child and tell them exactly what it is, how it is used and what is suppose to go in it. In the beginning, carry it into every room that an extended amount of time will be spent. (For a while it felt like the potty literally became my right hip.) </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhurRnN-U96yUIHiFdUTvtAvZW3bBxbwZ7aHhgiY57IFJK1niC_-ON2m9REiNI6RHX5g0oS51bK8-ET0-fxlyXx77OKC8xwxf_BeXm21V9LKHWMz1KjlE-sZNmVlGfD-IdCldcNujrYFUps/s1600/DSCN4553.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhurRnN-U96yUIHiFdUTvtAvZW3bBxbwZ7aHhgiY57IFJK1niC_-ON2m9REiNI6RHX5g0oS51bK8-ET0-fxlyXx77OKC8xwxf_BeXm21V9LKHWMz1KjlE-sZNmVlGfD-IdCldcNujrYFUps/s320/DSCN4553.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">2.</span><span style="font-size: large;"> Bare Bottom: Whether you're using cloth or disposables, ditch the diaper. This will allow the child to recognize what happens when the sensation arises.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">3.</span><span style="font-size: large;"> Watchful Eye: More often than not your child will show signs of having to use the bathroom. Whether it's a little dance, clenching of the jaw or a change in face color. As an observant parent you will be able to distinguish movements and initiate potty use by keeping an eye for these signals.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">4.</span><span style="font-size: large;"> Release Frustration: Just as much as children are learning how to use the toilet we as guardians are learning how to instruct them in </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">this endeavor. There will be mistakes, do not allow the mistakes to generate anxiety.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">5.</span><span style="font-size: large;"> Encourage and Motivate: It is important to set up a comforting environment for our children even centered around potty training. Be cautious with the urges to scrunch up your nose or turn your face in disgust for bowel movements. This portrayal sets the tone for how you feel about the occurrence; in turn your "mini me" may depict the same. Instead offer affirmations to ensure their efforts.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVN0NlhOPftT5NkYvG9VIklDWIIlk9RkJwasM6m56fgJRsEf9stA5bVEIudf_9pOfMMNzIh5Bw9bNyQXfXKDwjHhxx_F-NoXvRSrNdveVIOSmZjLFz3ESDML8ceUFS00GwUFX9r8ZUlfO_/s1600/DSCN4559.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVN0NlhOPftT5NkYvG9VIklDWIIlk9RkJwasM6m56fgJRsEf9stA5bVEIudf_9pOfMMNzIh5Bw9bNyQXfXKDwjHhxx_F-NoXvRSrNdveVIOSmZjLFz3ESDML8ceUFS00GwUFX9r8ZUlfO_/s320/DSCN4559.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">6.</span><span style="font-size: large;"> Be Stern: Once you realize your child recognizes where their waste is to be released and is perhaps being lazy or disobedient; express your unhappiness with it. Bend down to their level, look them in the eye and sternly tell them how you expect them to continue to behave.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">7.</span><span style="font-size: large;"> Take Them with You: As crazy as it sounds this proved to be useful as well. Remember your child is your "mini me" and 9 times out of 10 wants to copy all you perform. Inviting your child into the bathroom (they usually come at their own will...) will help them to see that using the bathroom is an everyday occurrence. Take this chance to lead by example.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCd7-VZYnDGdMwpgC7-slV4Ws04DMdHLO-0lo-H3ixLC-RNYwGrPElMVuDe3YbhhvB1_WhE8I9_7sY2dgC8rVE0Vb9A_4hSaGEBFvpHpo37Jrzu81mJfEm3OTN-_1UTVK49sTT5zwbS6ew/s1600/DSCN4576.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCd7-VZYnDGdMwpgC7-slV4Ws04DMdHLO-0lo-H3ixLC-RNYwGrPElMVuDe3YbhhvB1_WhE8I9_7sY2dgC8rVE0Vb9A_4hSaGEBFvpHpo37Jrzu81mJfEm3OTN-_1UTVK49sTT5zwbS6ew/s320/DSCN4576.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">8.</span><span style="font-size: large;"> Throw a Parade: Let go of all inhibitions when the goal is achieved. Dance, sing, jump, give hugs and kisses and ultimate praise. They will possibly love to see mommy/daddy acting a fool so much that the potty will become fun time.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #741b47; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">9.</span><span style="font-size: large;"> Be Consistent: There is no "half way", "part time", "every now and then" or "when I feel like it" when it comes to potty training. The success of this practice is integral in becoming a part of your daily and hourly routine. Whatever techniques you choose to employ in teaching your child the basics in potty training, STICK WITH IT.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgH078_-XQtTQMEJIGLLkzeHILtMGdblElOKpOBASAJDLNr8wVosP_IeJ76ziVzZBp8OxNp55VQiBCpA9ltTUEHodjfS4L3Yll8M8KKu3VVb5cnaiMjp3cmNJ2dM7QLnOlgJ-N5qtIl4RRT/s1600/DSCN4581.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgH078_-XQtTQMEJIGLLkzeHILtMGdblElOKpOBASAJDLNr8wVosP_IeJ76ziVzZBp8OxNp55VQiBCpA9ltTUEHodjfS4L3Yll8M8KKu3VVb5cnaiMjp3cmNJ2dM7QLnOlgJ-N5qtIl4RRT/s320/DSCN4581.JPG" width="320" /></a><span style="font-size: large;">Always keep in mind even seasoned youngsters have accidents. When your child is making sincere strides to make it to the potty just in time, whip out the words of encouragement and the spot cleaner. I will never forget the moments when my daughter was literally mid-step to the potty as the trickles began to flow down her leg. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Continue to encourage and be open and accessible to you child's feelings. Potty training success will not be far behind.</span></div>

In my post <a href="http://nopinsnecessary.blogspot.com/2012/06/sadies-babies-recommended-diaper-list.html" target="_blank">"Sadie's Babies Recommended Diaper <span style="font-size: large;">L<span style="font-size: large;">ist"</span></span></a> I suggested obtaining several of this style to add to your collection, however, it is best to know the benefits and limitations one size diapers offer.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrRUFXJ2wamTaHII6hUfFyoE9VdArpx9XSjd7tRnYtMFnZZ0x7OJ6hujDKIkB9m5YiB1pOnXguFMbXpUO8iYJq65KaubXgoGZ9l7TkaZCLllkl0hQAzKy9lW0y4WhY17Rs2x90TQbhRsrX/s1600/DPTeal.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrRUFXJ2wamTaHII6hUfFyoE9VdArpx9XSjd7tRnYtMFnZZ0x7OJ6hujDKIkB9m5YiB1pOnXguFMbXpUO8iYJq65KaubXgoGZ9l7TkaZCLllkl0hQAzKy9lW0y4WhY17Rs2x90TQbhRsrX/s320/DPTeal.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The <span style="font-size: large;">B</span>ad <span style="font-size: large;">N</span>ews:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">1.One size diapers do not fit every child the same way. You may run into a time where your little one is between the sizes of the specific rise adjustment <span style="font-size: large;">s</span>naps. <span style="font-size: large;">W</span>hen this happens, the leg elastic is either too tight or too loose around baby's thighs perhaps causing red marks or leaking because of an improper fit.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">2. Irritation: As your child becomes mobile the snaps seen in the rise may become irritating to their inner thigh. Although this is less common it is an issue that has been brought to my attention by fellow cloth diapering mommies.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">3. Misleading: The average one size diapers do not truly fit from birth to potty training<span style="font-size: large;">. <span style="font-size: large;">R</span></span>egardless the weight your baby is born all children can take up to 3 weeks before the newborn size specific diaper begins to fit properly. With that said most one size diapers only reach a size small when adjusted to its lowest setting.</span><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX2k_FLmCcZI-PZ2p5wpYeGsoQAWSQgsJ4fSw7wQGeUqpPx49WJf6fycOtJcrqVSluMCO6ILXxWG0UnS-RuYAX7nVfYrroyp5VAPTF6NCWN4FGNRYONPTBP_0_dCebh6si5E6BS5c8HAVi/s1600/DPYellow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX2k_FLmCcZI-PZ2p5wpYeGsoQAWSQgsJ4fSw7wQGeUqpPx49WJf6fycOtJcrqVSluMCO6ILXxWG0UnS-RuYAX7nVfYrroyp5VAPTF6NCWN4FGNRYONPTBP_0_dCebh6si5E6BS5c8HAVi/s320/DPYellow.jpg" width="240" /></a><span style="font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The <span style="font-size: large;">G</span>ood <span style="font-size: large;">N</span>ews: </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">1. Longevity: Children typically begin to fit nicely into one size diapers around eight weeks or so and can honestly last for a couple years thereafter. As well, there comes a point where your child will most likely rest within a particular size range, <span style="font-size: large;">knowing t<span style="font-size: large;">his one size dia<span style="font-size: large;">pers se<span style="font-size: large;">rve<span style="font-size: large;"> a great purpos<span style="font-size: large;">e<span style="font-size: large;">.</span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">2. In between stages: while this size is not my "go to" diaper they are wonderful to have on hand. When in between washing or figuring<span style="font-size: large;"> out your</span> little one's next size range <span style="font-size: large;">y</span>ou are able to base it off of <span style="font-size: large;">the</span> <span style="font-size: large;">size</span> setting that fits best on your child.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">3. <a href="http://sadies-babies.com/" target="_blank">Investment</a>: When it comes to this diaper money is spent one time<span style="font-size: large;">. Additionally when properly maint<span style="font-size: large;">ained you can easily place the same diaper on subsequent children.</span></span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: large;">K<span style="font-size: large;">nowing these factors of one size dia<span style="font-size: large;">pers will ho<span style="font-size: large;">pefully she<span style="font-size: large;">d light and aid in deci<span style="font-size: large;">sion making w<span style="font-size: large;">hen it comes to bu<span style="font-size: large;">ilding a collec<span style="font-size: large;">tion of <span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://sadies-babies.com/" target="_blank">cloth diapers</a> that best fit into your lifest<span style="font-size: large;">yle and budget.</span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span> </span></span></span><br />

I'm convinced, this has now become the ultimate baby shower gift!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Who would have thought that my mother's thrift store find would turn out to be so useful.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Given I would like to say that I came up with this concept from my ever creating mind, but, I did not. I adapted the over sized bib my mother purchased to make it completely adorable and incredibly industrious. Alright enough blabbing here it is...</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7BId3hmc82Ho8bYBbok7yqn4akoFwXJ8r_8txTnpWTof-Y_LJuQqb-3ZlG02GxuO1rQLyo0bDRXXk6c9-52Gd_7m1hlrG0sM2h1RIJA-baFp36fmZ1mHIRLK9PM_TC-l-o10UZP0a7VXq/s1600/DSCN3503.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7BId3hmc82Ho8bYBbok7yqn4akoFwXJ8r_8txTnpWTof-Y_LJuQqb-3ZlG02GxuO1rQLyo0bDRXXk6c9-52Gd_7m1hlrG0sM2h1RIJA-baFp36fmZ1mHIRLK9PM_TC-l-o10UZP0a7VXq/s320/DSCN3503.JPG" width="240" /></a><span style="font-size: large;">Initially I was calling it "The Crumb Catcher" but my husband did not respond to fondly to that title so we renamed it "The Coverall" Cute right?</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">While I was pregnant, about 5 months, my mother sent a huge box of various baby items including blankets, sippy cups (which I thought was pretty funny, what newborn drinks from a sippy cup) books and an over sized bib that needed some mending.</span><br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjFO2t0dyzQTqhrDCMZF78yZpssbN-VS3IZnG8as7ccohMBZTvp0xwfu7UlaevXr3aXrIylgpKcGrpaqmQpwrisgoABQsGTSuNXlNAhf7tH-oZ972UhsoPgw6dwfTV4iidW2bQhyphenhyphenVaHjlJ/s1600/DSCN3467.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjFO2t0dyzQTqhrDCMZF78yZpssbN-VS3IZnG8as7ccohMBZTvp0xwfu7UlaevXr3aXrIylgpKcGrpaqmQpwrisgoABQsGTSuNXlNAhf7tH-oZ972UhsoPgw6dwfTV4iidW2bQhyphenhyphenVaHjlJ/s320/DSCN3467.JPG" width="240" /></a><span style="font-size: large;">So, being who I am I placed all the items that were not pertinent in the closet to store away for later use.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">One short year later I pulled out the box and could not have been happier to be reminded there was no need to purchase some necessary items including sippy cups and bibs large enough to cover my now self feeding child (thanks mom!).</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Why did I not use the darn thing sooner?</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">It's perfect for catching spills and also proves to be wonderful for catching drool as she continually sprouts new teeth. Let's just say she started with one of the "Coveralls" and now has five! I especially love to use it to keep messes off her pretty little dresses.</span><br />

Here's 2 or 3; Out of City/State.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeu-QkOySYE_ysk2ODHLrX4rZdCgkmcT6sR3J5ZIA61nsORndMBmvwNrDuwSrXag6275IlEo887GLk2L3GoeJ2bfpKq-1XcfwpFxFRQI5q3vGh73NPCxWQO5M018ldyg4IXd9W78VIiC-o/s1600/DSC06184.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeu-QkOySYE_ysk2ODHLrX4rZdCgkmcT6sR3J5ZIA61nsORndMBmvwNrDuwSrXag6275IlEo887GLk2L3GoeJ2bfpKq-1XcfwpFxFRQI5q3vGh73NPCxWQO5M018ldyg4IXd9W78VIiC-o/s320/DSC06184.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">This is where the rules change up a bit.The fist thing I'll say about this topic: it is best to vacation at a place where you'll have access to at least a washing machine and a dryer at best. So, an over night trip to visit grandparents, aunts/uncles, siblings or best friends are always a plus. If not no worries it can still be done.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">When making travel arrangements first consider how many days/nights you will be away from home and pack accordingly. I like to gauge how many diapers to pack by how many my little one will typically soil in a days' period (including overnight) ; plus 2 extra per day. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">For example, if I will be away from home two days then I would pack 20 diapers and 4 <a href="http://www.sadies-babies.com/Sadie-s-Babies-Accessories/Velour-Boosters.html" target="_blank">boosters</a>. Yes, that is a lot, but, I like to account for the "oops" moments. In a day's time that will give me 8 diapers including extra if necessary. If your child is a heavy soaker or has many bowel movements consider these factors as well.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Throughout the day I change and store my diapers as usual following the <a href="http://www.nopinsnecessary.blogspot.com/2012/09/traveling-around-town.html" target="_blank">"Around the Town"</a> routine. As I reach the living quarters I'll perform the pre-wash and continue to maintain as usual. If I'm not able to wash them that night or the next morning or if they do not dry in time I will have another days' worth of diapers ready to go.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Additionally, if you are absolutely sure you will be able to wash and dry before the start of the next day then just pack enough to keep baby's bottom covered. :)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-size: large;">Let me know if this helps :)</span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05468400987637439067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228498311194438354.post-4524699405552314632012-09-15T05:48:00.003-07:002012-09-15T05:48:35.564-07:00Traveling: Around Town<span style="font-size: large;">Traveling with your <a href="http://www.sadies-babies.com/Cloth-Diapers/" target="_blank">cloth diapers</a> can prove to be slightly bulky and perhaps time consuming, but, when weighed against the health of baby's bottom and your wallet it is well worth it.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Since this is a pretty broad topic I'll break the article into three separate parts:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">1. Around Town<br />2. Out of City/State</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">3. Out of the Country</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Fortunately, I have experienced all of these types of travel with my diaper stash so I can tell you firsthand, it is not nearly as time consuming as one may think. I'll just say for the record the "poo" diapers become much easier as the little one begins to eat solids.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">First up: Around Town</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">When not straying too far away from home you can really stick to packing the basics. Typically you will want to pack 1 diaper for every 2 hours.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">For example, if you estimate to be mobile for 8 hours pack about 4 diapers; 3 hours perhaps 2 diapers and of course one or two extra for just in case.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEin_u12Xuonxtl_sba7qGf-dIhGYY3AZNb892BXsHUNZ6Z-2YscVNIUpyo8Bu5kIXE1bJgDoD4f4HMpYULG5SL8xq0rg_D_cmDy46-9tHRcL-4ysCcPFLSrd9Ek66ohyD0PQTCKeb3C3_3F/s1600/Inside+Diaper+Bag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEin_u12Xuonxtl_sba7qGf-dIhGYY3AZNb892BXsHUNZ6Z-2YscVNIUpyo8Bu5kIXE1bJgDoD4f4HMpYULG5SL8xq0rg_D_cmDy46-9tHRcL-4ysCcPFLSrd9Ek66ohyD0PQTCKeb3C3_3F/s320/Inside+Diaper+Bag.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> When making changes I found my <a href="http://www.sadies-babies.com/Sadie-s-Babies-Accessories.html" target="_blank">changing station </a>and zippered wet bag quickly became my best friends. Wonderful enough, I could fit two cloth diapers plus the wipes case within the inner pockets of the changing mat and just hang from my stroller handle for easy access.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.sadies-babies.com/Sadie-s-Babies-Accessories.html" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2cAVLhuYnzoxOiiJ-dCv2whJtoUNr2Lli7XpN9rJWuXe9JYXyRBgMPAalGjqDorp51EmnOcjY8RlRM4kXCq7YZbZDlHuH8xYW1BB3zPMvJFj3I_au1UAuPAUWwv2pIx3f-v4UevPbIhzb/s320/DSCN2332.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.sadies-babies.com/Sadie-s-Babies-Accessories.html" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitFQL1nHFIh_rdzJI4UVrl8tO7aTKTgYRVleC1_nI2_BlpTrJLSGOJE63fVcqsdXcRzWyW_7npAbQHyjNB2YEo_IJ2ynYoCJPCc5oCGTEZ7tGrW2s5gkmIfSjxWnIFaw-sf1pPcyQ1VE5h/s320/DSCN2335.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> Additionally, I carried a homemade solution I concocted to spray on soiled diapers until I reached home. I found doing this helped to contain odors and retard possible set in stains.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Once home, perform the pre-wash routine and everything is back to normal. If you happen to get home late and do not feel like like washing the diapers out, no worries it's not the end of the world, just be sure to get to them first thing in the morning.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Super Simple right? Traveling with cloth diapers Out of City/State will be coming soon. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Did you find this helpful? How do you travel with your cloth diapers? Let me know what works best for you below!</span><br />

Naturally you want the softest, most luxurious and even cutest fabrics to touch your little ones' bottom, but, let's not forget their purpose; they are diapers after all.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeu-QkOySYE_ysk2ODHLrX4rZdCgkmcT6sR3J5ZIA61nsORndMBmvwNrDuwSrXag6275IlEo887GLk2L3GoeJ2bfpKq-1XcfwpFxFRQI5q3vGh73NPCxWQO5M018ldyg4IXd9W78VIiC-o/s1600/DSC06184.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeu-QkOySYE_ysk2ODHLrX4rZdCgkmcT6sR3J5ZIA61nsORndMBmvwNrDuwSrXag6275IlEo887GLk2L3GoeJ2bfpKq-1XcfwpFxFRQI5q3vGh73NPCxWQO5M018ldyg4IXd9W78VIiC-o/s320/DSC06184.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Along with the many options offered for cloth diapers there are accompanying styles to fit in every budget. The least expensive of those options are the flat/prefolds. they are not as hard to manage as one may think. I have step by step pictured instructions posted in <a href="http://nopinsnecessary.blogspot.com/2011/11/how-to-fold-prefold.html" target="_blank">"How to fold a Prefold"</a></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://nopinsnecessary.blogspot.com/2011/11/how-to-fold-prefold.html" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjj9IpLdeyYBikJbMIgfERvo7a_XWk0Hkq7boeIkiylJ5h1rZwA2R-SuJ-_Mt2NzxV8yDNzu25KRHKtr-qhyphenhyphen84kg-uXzikWg8B9jMJpNLLrPqrYKwT3APAxmNdHp3xaDhgBfCcxO2M572Pr/s320/DSC04473.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">With this style, you are able to use a single prefold to fit from a newborn size to a extra large. Additionally you can easily customize the fit through the crotch and bottom areas.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Another low expense option are flannel/knit diapers commonly referred to as "fitteds". You can find these diapers with several closure options including snaps, hook and loop tape, safety pins and even "snappis." Just be aware you'll have to purchase a waterproof cover to place over this style.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2nzq56-FTWb-2tDMIilMfPYfv-0s-4nNr96gil0UoYqr2jYgjq2oTvPdkFwhxSLGQeikLMn51oHYh4RE3toiK_wTrp9NFzAROGMT1Nhtcw7EOAtKS_IAWxRKz-Zoif2l5a806Hd3QT2SJ/s1600/DSC04692.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2nzq56-FTWb-2tDMIilMfPYfv-0s-4nNr96gil0UoYqr2jYgjq2oTvPdkFwhxSLGQeikLMn51oHYh4RE3toiK_wTrp9NFzAROGMT1Nhtcw7EOAtKS_IAWxRKz-Zoif2l5a806Hd3QT2SJ/s320/DSC04692.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"> Currently, my style of choice are <a href="http://nopinsnecessary.blogspot.com/2011/09/what-does-all-jargon-mean.html" target="_blank">All-in-Ones</a> (AI1's). When singularly purchased, prices on average range between $2-$5 more expensive than the aforementioned, but, the convenience is worth it! Now that I get out the house more often, I don't have to worry about extra parts or stuffing pocket diapers anymore. I find them to be trim fitting under clothing and they definitely take up less space in my diaper bag.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDXc_nhIGzfXJ2SGE8jyGlc7aeearr0srPC2o1b0NWdNNCgesuk5X6ve1ix7BKjDsnTOeSuLTRdWeje94HzsGDdo2xkbcqRX7m4yfmIGWW-XWx_tDXuWkL92c_D7VPEw_dNWsbtAeAn93K/s1600/plumdp.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDXc_nhIGzfXJ2SGE8jyGlc7aeearr0srPC2o1b0NWdNNCgesuk5X6ve1ix7BKjDsnTOeSuLTRdWeje94HzsGDdo2xkbcqRX7m4yfmIGWW-XWx_tDXuWkL92c_D7VPEw_dNWsbtAeAn93K/s320/plumdp.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Most importantly do not feel pressured into purchasing a single style of cloth diapers. Maintain a variety of options; you may find your preference to change as the little one grows.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Test the waters and discover the variety that best fits your lifestyle diaper by diaper.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>

When initially introduced to the concept, I did not pay too much attention to it. Nearly a year later I decided to give them a try and I can tell you with absolute conviction, I'll NEVER go back to disposable liners, EVER!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Like cloth diapers, reusable pads hold environmental, financial and even physical advantages.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5btDxzVQZyluXOmWtg-6BK-j9l3mpCScmOFieKVk0qj8EDN_uYcai_Dd5ZH7SL3aIAKXFUMvr_4-UNYG0xYM2-todNacmOoo_AyaNPIjiPDel5h9Yne1eAXazdBJnOf_0fSWbM2OmwWxq/s1600/AquaBlue+Fields+pad.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5btDxzVQZyluXOmWtg-6BK-j9l3mpCScmOFieKVk0qj8EDN_uYcai_Dd5ZH7SL3aIAKXFUMvr_4-UNYG0xYM2-todNacmOoo_AyaNPIjiPDel5h9Yne1eAXazdBJnOf_0fSWbM2OmwWxq/s320/AquaBlue+Fields+pad.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br />After conducting some research I discovered how detrimental the chemicals used in manufacturing and even harvesting the contents used in the disposable liners can pose to our health and safety.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/health/2012/03/29/texas-blogger-finds-moldy-tampon/" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="249" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitqa675ZukytgxxVMPa0UYzru19smMEGW06aAfSQzhjKjO74WwhTj78Ee2mbCCilZBPrp9MtDACiGGCw80I5XrUuxybZjDPBqWxmnUzl9QNreGjtECQMdtpVe69qsZiOXfgVS__LePQkNV/s320/Moldy+Tampon.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Like disposable diapers, sanitary napkins contain a chemical called <a href="http://nopinsnecessary.blogspot.com/2011/11/why-should-i-choose-cloth.html" target="_blank">Dioxin</a>, which is a by product of the paper bleaching process. Although the levels of dioxin contained in sanitary use are quite small it is still hazardous. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Another chemical used is Furan, which is a pesticide used to spray on the cotton crops. This particular chemical is so strong it will stay on the cotton long after it's been harvested, up to 20 years! </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Because these chemicals are soluble they accumulate in the fat deposits of the body and can add up to very dangerous residual levels over time.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><i>I'll delve deeper into what physical ailments these chemicals are linked to in a later post.</i></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Personally, I can tell you the comfort of cloth pads are unmatched by disposable napkins! I am no longer bothered by the adhesive strip sticking to my unmentionables the residue left on the undergarments or even the rough edges irritating my skin.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">In three months time, I noticed a great decrease of abdominal pain, strength of flow and even days per cycle. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">So if you're looking to save money, shy away from the discomfort disposable sanitary napkins may pose or leave your green thumbprint on the world then cloth menstrual pads may be worth a shot!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.sadies-babies.com/Sadie-s-Ladies/" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj5nFYYiLfsvqlUMoNRY6210yDtPXqmihs01cKT7dbgwPXcxeENVk_Ibh_bnkF-Tnl3tsudrzU9neBGC8Is9EOJVTTWGJvodrA1vG7YVxHu8qG16AKkazli-GTJFTqnYPymWYWJ1vtL8KC/s640/PadPromotion.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Try Dish Soap!<span style="font-size: large;">Grandparents are wonderful! They drop gems of knowledge without even knowing it.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Cloth Diapering skipped a generation with my mother. Fortunately, with the ease of use cloth diapering now provides; I've been able to pick up the torch not only saving money, but, protecting my daughter from harmful toxins found in most disposable diapers, that would otherwise be in constant contact with her skin. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">In speaking with my Mema she revealed some handy secrets to expelling stubborn odors.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Dish Detergent! Yep, simple as that regular ol' dish washing soap!</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5lKym94_UKiTv8-5xZshs9nL5ceIKSlycDJ8yPmJ3Fm8nApUuIEOhXLttYiy8so6PmRPC1_qFnp9bYuxOThsD9klkGHR844ac5ZhdkpL03AXXHJGAWh-NPTkktlkL0ctXptv9Yf_rJ26A/s1600/DishSoap.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5lKym94_UKiTv8-5xZshs9nL5ceIKSlycDJ8yPmJ3Fm8nApUuIEOhXLttYiy8so6PmRPC1_qFnp9bYuxOThsD9klkGHR844ac5ZhdkpL03AXXHJGAWh-NPTkktlkL0ctXptv9Yf_rJ26A/s320/DishSoap.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">All I did was add about 1-2 tablespoons to a full load of previously washed diapers using hot water. In the end I ran an extra rinse cycle (as normal) to ensure the diapers were free of soap. In completing this process I chose what was readily available in my kitchen and found it to work great. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiupmvC7NGJT686uA6c7HlLao-LwMjW2T2PCWgLVekPAdT6jECIoBpVw6D3t-kyZE9fe7CG2ggOJKyifM3LUs91Br61jOuQ2bui1sjLdL0VznnT7cIqA5EraIyVpSB0Xil9ZdlEmws7Oq8L/s1600/DishSoap1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiupmvC7NGJT686uA6c7HlLao-LwMjW2T2PCWgLVekPAdT6jECIoBpVw6D3t-kyZE9fe7CG2ggOJKyifM3LUs91Br61jOuQ2bui1sjLdL0VznnT7cIqA5EraIyVpSB0Xil9ZdlEmws7Oq8L/s1600/DishSoap1.jpg" /></a></div>
</div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Additionally, I also tried the dish soap as a replacement to the Dr. Bonner's I normally use in my pre-wash routine, once again a great result.</span><br />
<a href="http://nopinsnecessary.blogspot.com/2011/11/how-do-i-take-care-of-cloth-diapers.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-size: large;">To find out how I perform my wash routines click here</span></a><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">If you're concerned with the chemicals involved with dish soap then stick with castile. I'll be trying African black soap in this same manner and let you know how it turns out</span>.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Until then Happy Cloth Diapering!</span><br />
<br />

For a mommy who has been doing so for over a year I can tell you completely from experience the methods and styles I found to work best.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">When it comes to any reusable good you want to make sure you get the most out of it. After all, one key factor in choosing cloth diapers is to save money.</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Many feel one size diapers are the best choice to make, but, like anything they too have their pro's and cons.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I feel it is nice to have a variety when building a stash of diapers; which is why I recommend obtaining a select number of each size. To find out how to get the most out of size specific diapers please view <a href="http://nopinsnecessary.blogspot.com/2012/01/is-this-right-fit.html" target="_blank">"Is This the Right Fit."</a></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I suggest buying the most of a particular size at the largest your baby will be within the longest time period. Yes children grow, but, I found my daughter stayed within a certain size range between months four and sixteen.There was about a one month period where she grew out of her small diapers, but, fell right back into them as she became mobile.</span><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Below I've listed the diaper styles to which I feel you're able to benefit the most with the coordination of the cost.</span><br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">.5 Dozen One Size Diapers</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">1.5 Dozen Flannel Diapers (Pocket or Fitted)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">3 PUL Covers</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">.5 Dozen All in Two's (AI2) (size specific)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">.5 Flat/Prefolds</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">1 Wool/Fleece Longie</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">2 Wool/Fleece Shorties</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">8-10 All in One's (AI1)- for out and about and travel only (one size or size specific)</span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-size: large;">This is the list I found to work best for me. Consider your circumstances and modify accordingly. If your baby will be in child care All in One's or All in Two's will most likely be your best choice. Similarly, if you simply prefer All in One's or All in Two's have that style comprise the majority of your diapers.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">When considering full time cloth diapering 3 dozen diapers will allow washing every 3rd day.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Remember there is no need to rush into building your diaper collection. Try a little at a time and figure what works best for you. </span><br />

</div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Finding the correct diaper size for any baby can be a daunting task, especially when you are a newbie to cloth diapering and motherhood in general.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Every baby is different; and although size charts are helpful, it is best to physically measure your child to find what size range they fall into.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The basic factors that effect the fit of diapers are the rise, waist, thigh and "bottom width".</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The rise refers to the length from belly button to lower back. To take this measurement, position the measuring tape</span><span style="font-size: large;"> </span><span style="font-size: large;">at the ba</span><span style="font-size: large;">ck of the waist right in line with the navel,</span><span style="font-size: large;"> </span><span style="font-size: large;">through the legs stopping</span><span style="font-size: large;"> just under the belly button, making sure there is slack in the crotch area. You may find it helpful to perform this over a diaper.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMs9BAnaymk2_FN8v8VGZh1v_EQnch3x6cAccWf8-motiKJl1L6Y-YHu4tdlTpZ0UsFcUBmS_oxFyR1dZc2nEviV-hmC0PINs6R4YFcgoPJSY0DU4zauUXG5M6ItKSPVWkaR-1TTxKgjfK/s1600/DSC04712.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMs9BAnaymk2_FN8v8VGZh1v_EQnch3x6cAccWf8-motiKJl1L6Y-YHu4tdlTpZ0UsFcUBmS_oxFyR1dZc2nEviV-hmC0PINs6R4YFcgoPJSY0DU4zauUXG5M6ItKSPVWkaR-1TTxKgjfK/s320/DSC04712.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3VZlKwJ31Gz8Z0wAzMmVfoCqFIcRGFHk2E5mh9lVRbBb6btefemBnvTKLKtHrx8ZPqK7ufk4mNXFIH3BgDLlBLcMlgx4YZKPTH8_jWFk5M4FiNFvV24LAfSswvYmrZp8GvloBs5osd-7X/s1600/DSC04716.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3VZlKwJ31Gz8Z0wAzMmVfoCqFIcRGFHk2E5mh9lVRbBb6btefemBnvTKLKtHrx8ZPqK7ufk4mNXFIH3BgDLlBLcMlgx4YZKPTH8_jWFk5M4FiNFvV24LAfSswvYmrZp8GvloBs5osd-7X/s320/DSC04716.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The second is the waist. Simply position the measuring tape at the navel and wrap around ending where you began. Be sure the tape is snug not tight around the your baby's waist. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr04BE2hIX4lFxcj7oeTSiVuzt4ywsXzMFO5awuvEh5ydelJkrV_PS_yfOnK2f1kCPer342K5IaXeiQ1EOIa4ygIOQyPagksw7YEwQqXkcBA1yUBstDDKE1tJxZQLl36dcYiDTyUJfpLhX/s1600/DSC04711.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr04BE2hIX4lFxcj7oeTSiVuzt4ywsXzMFO5awuvEh5ydelJkrV_PS_yfOnK2f1kCPer342K5IaXeiQ1EOIa4ygIOQyPagksw7YEwQqXkcBA1yUBstDDKE1tJxZQLl36dcYiDTyUJfpLhX/s320/DSC04711.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Next, measure the thigh finding the largest part closest to the hip joint. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDgQwiCvgMnlDyU8QyUo-IXvTzdynTde0fJUAD2SQ2usYnD44pcRbUytWkn_SVgWXRL_Z0M8qROf5MNuGTtuJH4E-cb71j9sxZh7oWpK-YBN-neF7hvsKPEZoptuChqgDeDJkOs4ARg5GY/s1600/DSC04718.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDgQwiCvgMnlDyU8QyUo-IXvTzdynTde0fJUAD2SQ2usYnD44pcRbUytWkn_SVgWXRL_Z0M8qROf5MNuGTtuJH4E-cb71j9sxZh7oWpK-YBN-neF7hvsKPEZoptuChqgDeDJkOs4ARg5GY/s320/DSC04718.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Last but not least, I like to call this measurement" bottom width". Most people do not think about this, but, I found my little one's bottom was at least one inch wider than manufactured cloth diapers, so I created a custom pattern. To find this, locate the widest part of your baby's bottom drawing the tape from one side to the other, resting in the crease between the bottom and upper thigh.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgawrWZUM-isu7XVrqWE6OMJoe0mvOJQcSWC8ubFZLC7agwg7UP7aU00UkstBZPoIDktzQCPvytBYAI8wBGExKbNml4aTUwtfUcsG-ZdiVsEvWokWRZA8CYBwCwc3vhREVFY4tIN5uSIzAJ/s1600/DSC04721.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgawrWZUM-isu7XVrqWE6OMJoe0mvOJQcSWC8ubFZLC7agwg7UP7aU00UkstBZPoIDktzQCPvytBYAI8wBGExKbNml4aTUwtfUcsG-ZdiVsEvWokWRZA8CYBwCwc3vhREVFY4tIN5uSIzAJ/s320/DSC04721.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Once these measurements are tallied, you can then efficiently find the proper size for your baby. When looking at common size charts it is better to have your measurements fall at the lower end of the category. That way you will gain greater use from your size specific cloth diapers.</span><br />

</div><span style="font-size: large;"> These easy covers are especially great for night time use, or, if you're home all day. Fleece and wool soakers are not waterproof, however, they are water repellent; meaning they kick the moisture back into the diaper. </span><br />

</div><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">When it comes to overnight cloth diapering there is a great chance the diaper will leak and this can happen for a couple of reasons:</span><br />
<ol><li><span style="font-size: large;">The diaper can be soiled for an extended period causing a basic overflow.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">With the extra absorbency packed in the diaper this may cause gaps between the baby's thigh and the leg elastic of the diaper</span></li>
</ol><span style="font-size: large;">*If your diapers leak on a regular basis a post of helpful hints is coming soon* </span><br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">To help prevent overnight leaking ensure the diaper has a stay dry interior usually made up of some type of polyester material like microsuede or velveteen. These fabrics will pull moisture away from your baby's bottom and reduce the risk of irritation. This action is known as "wicking." There are even night time specific diapers or those tailored for heavy wetters. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">As an extra measure, add your fleece/wool soaker. The extended leg trim will wrap around your baby's thigh to decrease the chance of overflow.</span><br />
<br />

<span style="font-size: large;">**Note: it is not recommended to wear fleece and wool soakers under clothing**</span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05468400987637439067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228498311194438354.post-88697143093282788472012-01-10T12:56:00.000-08:002012-01-10T19:41:00.440-08:00How to Store Cloth Diapers<span style="font-size: large;">The key to cloth diapering success is organization. So it is important a system is in place to ensure your diapers are within arms reach when needed.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Storing a stash of 3 dozen or so diapers can take up a bit of room, but, it is definitely manageable. Through trial and error pull out drawers and/or flat open top baskets are some of the best options.When stored near your changing area this system makes changes fast and easy.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfldx2UBoQBnSIS9QiX3t2ECuDS5tprIe0NlNCXnU_xxjyE8_jEppVbqQO3fK9lN9Ihc8rD8kK0G4iQteEsNBap5uQXgiK85KFc3UmhrIYkkTUwUZkjqcqIfLWGKbtsYL8SJNVUN7wkuTu/s1600/DSC05051.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfldx2UBoQBnSIS9QiX3t2ECuDS5tprIe0NlNCXnU_xxjyE8_jEppVbqQO3fK9lN9Ihc8rD8kK0G4iQteEsNBap5uQXgiK85KFc3UmhrIYkkTUwUZkjqcqIfLWGKbtsYL8SJNVUN7wkuTu/s320/DSC05051.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> It is best to separate your diapers according to size, style, time of use (day/night) and even brand. Categorizing your diapers in this manner is helpful for several reasons: </span><br />
<ol><li><span style="font-size: large;">Limits confusion: especially when daddy is performing changes.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">Able to change baby quickly</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">You can see how many clean diapers are available</span></li>
</ol><span style="font-size: large;">If using cloth wipes be sure to have those plus your solution handy at the changing area as well. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">With continued use and organization you'll quickly reap the benefits of cloth diapering.</span><br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaIESPuezdlYMgkUhtnoXzvI0e3CKAXLLxP3cjNpix1HcFDzPvAWXJYmqEOT_KdbXgrWseaFQrQyvtK6xwkjpMIr4SzhlDsb3ek7OX6Q4YWdSyH57qA4nZ2F368Qm-i3G8yoVcj_WN7WHK/s1600/DSC04706.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaIESPuezdlYMgkUhtnoXzvI0e3CKAXLLxP3cjNpix1HcFDzPvAWXJYmqEOT_KdbXgrWseaFQrQyvtK6xwkjpMIr4SzhlDsb3ek7OX6Q4YWdSyH57qA4nZ2F368Qm-i3G8yoVcj_WN7WHK/s320/DSC04706.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Please believe you have options when it comes to where cloth diapers can be purchased. Although convenient, it is not necessary to solely purchase your stash from large companies. There are many independent contractors who craft diapers on the same scale as the large manufacturers.</span> <span style="font-size: large;">It may be well worth your time and effort to purchase locally. You may find that independent contractors readily offer several options in styles and fabrics. With enough time, resources and research it is even possible to craft a custom cloth diaper stash of your own.</span><br />

Some diapers have snaps while others offer Touch Tape or sewn hook and loop velcro. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Most snaps are made from a polyacetal resin. A snap press is needed to apply this notion properly. When strategically placed snaps offer a decorative element with the use of coordinating or contrasting colors. You can also rest assured older babies will find it more difficult to remove this diaper themselves.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLopHPIThsl9PwxocwLajqsofjE7SSLJt74kQ8kGMKzR0YdP7P5wqCpdp1DVAveQ3eiPRKf8nnWWWn4oidHImLImRETZCJhxv7hzNuT85XLwc8J7DZ8EHnUETV3QK6dGMfwldZiohfM-ZX/s1600/DSC04705.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLopHPIThsl9PwxocwLajqsofjE7SSLJt74kQ8kGMKzR0YdP7P5wqCpdp1DVAveQ3eiPRKf8nnWWWn4oidHImLImRETZCJhxv7hzNuT85XLwc8J7DZ8EHnUETV3QK6dGMfwldZiohfM-ZX/s320/DSC04705.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Touch tape offers many fitting choices. When either purchasing or creating diapers with this option be sure there is a laundry tab to secure the hook portion when washing.</span><br />

Watching my daughter grow in these short 12 months is nothing short of phenomenal and I must admit, it certainly is nice to have baby apparel that grows with a developing child. Which is why one size diapers are an ideal choice to have in your cloth diaper stash. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj60xMrlciOODP7IpuLngurHMPXJ9ugg6LqifD8tqnWtLXamMlv_wJ1A4qZg49LgiiCG8U-nqKRxO7eT08Cyr7GmNvExbCA6h5xbWNmSkHe95DwFQf9vHyhCBd4-n16B55QFhWuw_CGOBWt/s1600/DSC04334.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj60xMrlciOODP7IpuLngurHMPXJ9ugg6LqifD8tqnWtLXamMlv_wJ1A4qZg49LgiiCG8U-nqKRxO7eT08Cyr7GmNvExbCA6h5xbWNmSkHe95DwFQf9vHyhCBd4-n16B55QFhWuw_CGOBWt/s320/DSC04334.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The main difference when transitioning through sizes are the fits amongst the rise and the waist. The rise of a diaper is the measurement right below the belly button through the legs to the top of the bottom. This measurement naturally effects the elastic fit for the thigh. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Most one size diapers have multi snap settings or touch tape fasteners to adjust tightness through the waist and more often than not, snap settings are seen within the rise. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Inserts range from microfiber to terry cloth, bamboo, flannel and other absorbent materials.</span><br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4CCWgQLmpM8T7Q5mGgHvbXl1iPJ-IYiQZNNisElEscQmhI-p_OHeeXx0Ga8_MTn32EqRLMgA_yB3KnBU2_vxcvEnZdpIjc0eJzz6TTWeJRk1tJsNvWc6EFWZ144lDanG4tLCARq0niwlB/s1600/DSC04593.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4CCWgQLmpM8T7Q5mGgHvbXl1iPJ-IYiQZNNisElEscQmhI-p_OHeeXx0Ga8_MTn32EqRLMgA_yB3KnBU2_vxcvEnZdpIjc0eJzz6TTWeJRk1tJsNvWc6EFWZ144lDanG4tLCARq0niwlB/s320/DSC04593.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The beauty of a one size diaper is that it is a constant, typically fitting from birth to potty training or about 8-35lbs.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br />
Through personal experience one size diapers are a great crutch to have when trying to keep up with a growing baby. Not to mention you get more bang from your buck! So shop around and see what works best for you.</span><br />

I made it! A full year of cloth diapering! It's surely been an adventurous journey.</span></div><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">When initially introduced to the idea I shuddered in fear. My first thoughts centered around time and work. I thought there weren't enough hours in the day to cloth diaper and on top of that it was unnecessary extra work to commit to. But, I can tell you from personal experience not only is it super simple, it is well worth it.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">As previously stated I began cloth diapering my child at six weeks of age. I started as a part time cloth diaper-er only using reusable diapers 30-50% of the time. It wasn't until my baby reached three months that I decided to commit to full time, using reusable diapers more than 80%.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br />
Since I was home for the most part my preference were <a href="http://nopinsnecessary.blogspot.com/2011/09/what-does-all-jargon-mean.html" target="_blank">Pre-folds </a>with a <a href="http://nopinsnecessary.blogspot.com/2011/09/what-does-all-jargon-mean.html" target="_blank">waterproof PUL cover</a>. At that point, it seemed to be the most economical choice as the cover could possibly remain clean all day. </span>*Wondering how to fold a pre-fold around you baby? <a href="http://nopinsnecessary.blogspot.com/2011/11/how-to-fold-prefold.html" target="_blank">Click here for step by step instructions</a>*<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggQLhv9HVFLQT3x4_-kDB9BijWevP7dpu80DG5DP6kzXh2vDj7cO9YnitSWg0lqr4I9MgCKPHEOy1TpTv42OQbxx933iSlT5alvAM6UY-j6LHYWaapiOlYkp43EoDjQoTd2w6GlAFj-Yv_/s1600/DSC04357.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggQLhv9HVFLQT3x4_-kDB9BijWevP7dpu80DG5DP6kzXh2vDj7cO9YnitSWg0lqr4I9MgCKPHEOy1TpTv42OQbxx933iSlT5alvAM6UY-j6LHYWaapiOlYkp43EoDjQoTd2w6GlAFj-Yv_/s320/DSC04357.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">As I started to get out of the house <a href="http://nopinsnecessary.blogspot.com/2011/09/what-does-all-jargon-mean.html" target="_blank">All-in-Two's</a> or <a href="http://nopinsnecessary.blogspot.com/2011/09/what-does-all-jargon-mean.html" target="_blank">Pocket Fitted's</a> became top choice. These styles allowed for a quick change and snug fit around my baby's waist and thighs so I didn't have to worry about those dreaded blow outs. When it came to traveling with cloth diapers I found it fairly easy to manage a quick change, even with the poo diapers. As my little one soiled the diaper I used homemade solutions to spray on and store in the wet bag until I reached home to perform the pre-rinse. As I continued using cloth diapers it became easier and easier to incorporate them into my everyday life.</span><br />
<br />

It may be said disposables are the best fit, but, I encourage you to research how disposable diapers are manufactured and the possible effects associated with their use. The following will give you step by step instructions accompanied with pictures to help you successfully pin this style diaper around your baby's bottom.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Your Sadie's Babies flat/pre-fold comes with a tag located at the center back. This tag should face out when folding the diaper around your baby's bottom.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMu2cC0PtnGdiBq-VSt2to3As2K1ML2Ng_xMk7GeSpxOlyjIZUL5b4xIV8CAaKkAiDF8w_qlfLR83jqsP_Pi6QTc6mopxSjhRfiQ8o7GBmX7t5GI3NCRDIx5Ip1Km3YKqSKudtUkY5dnWQ/s1600/DSC04440.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMu2cC0PtnGdiBq-VSt2to3As2K1ML2Ng_xMk7GeSpxOlyjIZUL5b4xIV8CAaKkAiDF8w_qlfLR83jqsP_Pi6QTc6mopxSjhRfiQ8o7GBmX7t5GI3NCRDIx5Ip1Km3YKqSKudtUkY5dnWQ/s320/DSC04440.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Newborn (NB)/Small Fold:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> Flip the flat over so the tag faces down</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">On the opposite side, fold the fabric down about 3 inches</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjziQ5WuwzR39uthEYOx98hZhhDsfOwGboM4FXWbumPNLcmQYw9OqV86BgaDhw041TqJuXPLUqo1c_Ix_CtT9KxWgXWO11Jsj-FxxFCiu2W89Y71W2E9rDi-mF6mSxj0YH1uYK_WgFH2iVY/s1600/DSC04442.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjziQ5WuwzR39uthEYOx98hZhhDsfOwGboM4FXWbumPNLcmQYw9OqV86BgaDhw041TqJuXPLUqo1c_Ix_CtT9KxWgXWO11Jsj-FxxFCiu2W89Y71W2E9rDi-mF6mSxj0YH1uYK_WgFH2iVY/s320/DSC04442.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Along each long edge fold the fabric inward to meet the parallel center stitches</span><br />

For one, think of all the money saved not only from your wallet, but, the environment as well. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Inclusive, there are a number of health benefits associated with cloth diapering.</span><span style="font-size: large;"> </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Did you know disposable diapers contain: </span><br />
<ul><li><span style="font-size: large;">Traces of Dioxin, an extremely toxic by product of the paper bleaching process. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) lists this carcinogenic chemical as the most toxic of all cancer linked chemicals. Dioxin is banned in most countries although not the U.S.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">Sodium Polyacrylate a super absorbent polymer that increases the risk and growth of toxin producing bacteria. This is the gel that forms when the baby soils the diaper.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">Tributyl-tin (TBT), a toxic pollutant well known to cause harmful effects on the hormonal, immune and nervous systems in mammals and aquatic life. Even in the smallest concentrations it can impair the liver and interfere with sexual development.</span></li>
</ul><span style="font-size: large;">As well, the prolonged use of disposables on boys greatly increases scrotal temperature; either blunting or completely abolishing the natural cooling mechanism for testicles important for sperm growth (spermatogenesis.)- <a href="http://adc.bmj.com/">Archives of Disease in Childhood, May 2000</a></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRoGqvomlhlhEEAk-t7hl8PJ1urafZDkqgsDzR3b1GiVW8wdaszhnYw72tOgluUJ9enPMbqkFIOntiu2TA5CtMMSBHEsbef7kV0c8fViV8_66eJLdYIAGM9UEXVzMsaO1zuTswCS0kQ8Il/s1600/DSC04345.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRoGqvomlhlhEEAk-t7hl8PJ1urafZDkqgsDzR3b1GiVW8wdaszhnYw72tOgluUJ9enPMbqkFIOntiu2TA5CtMMSBHEsbef7kV0c8fViV8_66eJLdYIAGM9UEXVzMsaO1zuTswCS0kQ8Il/s320/DSC04345.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">On the environmental side, disposables generate 50% of household waste. Though it is not completely known, it is estimated it takes 250-500 years for a disposable diaper to decompose. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Now I'm not totally knocking disposables, they have their advantages. The most popular of which is convenience. Disposable diapers can be purchased at almost any retail store and yes when it comes down to it, it is easier to just toss the disposable in the trash. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">If concerns arise with the aforementioned facts, look into alternative choices of disposable diapers such as; the chlorine free, fragrance and latex free eco-friendly brands (7th Generation).</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">All in all, the decision to use cloth diapers rests with the parents.</span></div><br />

Here I'll expound on the 2 forms I've tried and which I like best.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Generally when washing cloth diapers you want to use an oxygenated soap like Dr. Bonners, Sun Detergent or 7th Generation. These soaps aid in releasing possible set in stains. Additionally, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS dump solids into the toilet before beginning the wash routine.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Some tools I find helpful and certainly handy are:</span><br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">2.5 Gallon ( or larger) Bucket</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">Bowl/Large Cup/Small Pail</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">Washboard</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">Latex Gloves</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">Stain Remover</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">Dr. Bonner's Soap (used for pre-wash)</span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-size: large;">When washing your diapers in the washer use cold water and remove inserts. Pour in 1/4 of the recommended amount of detergent along with some baking soda and my personal fave 2-3 drops of tea tree and/or lavender essential oils. Once your wash and rinse cycle are complete perform an extra rinse. Some washers give you the option of an extra cycle; if yours allows for this KUDOS no need to run back to the laundry room. Upon full completion, either toss them in the dryer or hang to dry. Allowing your diapers to dry outside where the sun can hit them is a wonderful option. The sun acts as an antibacterial agent along with a stain releaser for those stubborn spots.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">**IMPORTANT** Do not use fabric softener or dryer sheets when drying your diapers. This will shorten the life and decrease absorbency.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Now, on to the soaking/prewash methods...</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">First is the soaking method. Fill a bucket, diaper pail etc with lukewarm water and toss your diapers in until it's time for the wash (remember to dump those solids.) When the time comes, pour everything including the water into the washing machine. Start with the spin cycle and allow the water to spin out before beginning the regular wash routine.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Although this method is the least hands on, there is an odor build up, so, you'll want to change the water everyday to every two days because odds are the odors will set into your diapers. Baking soda can also be used to absorb possible odors.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Second is the dry method, which I prefer. When my daughter soils her diaper I fill the bucket with just enough hot water to begin a pre-wash and rinse. I then add a drop of soap to the water and repeatedly dunk the diaper in and out. For "poo" diapers I add a little bit of Dr. Bonner's soap to the blemished areas, work it into a lather and use the washboard to get the rest out. If you don't have a washboard simply perform a handwash. Thoroughly rinse the diaper, ring it out and store in your pail until time for the wash.</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">With consistency, you'll begin to notice washing your diapers and keeping them in rotation is a feasible feat.</span></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05468400987637439067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228498311194438354.post-31395044751982156072011-11-06T09:44:00.000-08:002011-11-08T16:39:10.648-08:00How Many do I Really Need?<span style="font-size: large;">Now that you know what cloth diapering is all about let's get down to the nitty gritty of the quantity needed.</span> <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpL567QZMo5k5Gp4TD07O_bw749yJ4Wxo224GXWPRvcVPsoCrHn6-ROfktWptN5n5GsHrhF6XZ4-F9-p6WZCSnkHmxq9MD7F1v-1FyttsgJ0Tzhqo8VbfsQO9FwRfKnlE7MykWFl-y5DUd/s1600/DSC04340.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240px" ida="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpL567QZMo5k5Gp4TD07O_bw749yJ4Wxo224GXWPRvcVPsoCrHn6-ROfktWptN5n5GsHrhF6XZ4-F9-p6WZCSnkHmxq9MD7F1v-1FyttsgJ0Tzhqo8VbfsQO9FwRfKnlE7MykWFl-y5DUd/s320/DSC04340.JPG" width="320px" /></a></div><span style="font-size: large;">The top two questions I'm always asked are:</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">"How many diapers do I really need?" and "Do you have to change the baby more often with cloth diapers?"</span></div><span style="font-size: large;">Naturally, there are varying responses to each question because it depends on whether you will commit to full or part time cloth diapering. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">**One should also keep in mind it is recommended to change newborns (0-3 months) every 1-2 hours and 4 months and older every 3-4 hours.**</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">To find out how to keep cloth diapers in rotation <a href="http://nopinsnecessary.blogspot.com/2011/11/how-do-i-take-care-of-cloth-diapers.html">click here</a>.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">If you anticipate using cloth diapers full time expect to have 3 dozen or more assorted varieties. This allots for washing every third day.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">It is estimated newborns go through 8-12 diapers in a day and older babies 6-8.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Given a dozen diapers a day seems like a lot of changes, but, you'll always want to account for the "just in case." Like when your baby goes potty just as you're getting the clean diaper under his/her bottom (Trust it has happened to me) OR the moments where they'll soil the diaper as soon as you take them off the changing table (yep this too.)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">For part time cloth diapering you can easily cut your stash in half to about 1.5 dozen.</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Try different varieties of cloth diaper styles and routines to find your best fit!</span></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05468400987637439067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228498311194438354.post-51849178148565980432011-09-04T22:37:00.000-07:002011-11-08T16:46:34.396-08:00What Does the Jargon Mean?<span style="font-size: x-large;">So we've already gotten started on cloth diapers and how convenient and comfortable they can be, but, what does the jargon really mean?</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;">Here, I'll break down the names of each cloth diaper and how they are used.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;">First up you have your ol' school</span><br />
<ol><li><span style="font-size: x-large;"><u>Flats/Prefolds:</u> These are the flat white cloths Mommy's used back in the day, held with safety pins. As with all fabrics, these can be purchased as organic/inorganic, bleached/unbleached etc. With these a waterproof (WP) cover is needed. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: x-large;"><u>Contour Flat/Prefolds:</u> Contours are the same as the above with the exception of it being cut in an hourglass or "V" format to allow a better fit through the crotch area with extra freedom to kick those chubby little legs. A WP cover is needed.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: x-large;"><u>Fitted Diaper:</u> This is your cloth diaper with elastic divisions in the legs and waist. The absorbency layers are sewn into the diaper so extra absorbency isn't necessary, although, parents may choose to add more. A WP cover is needed.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: x-large;"><u>Pocket Fitted Diaper:</u> This diaper maintains elastic divisions in the legs and waist. At the back of the diaper a pocket is featured to add as many or little absorbency layers as you please. A WP cover is needed.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: x-large;"><u>PUL/WP Cover:</u> A waterproof cover is commonly made with a fabric called polyurethane laminate (PUL). Fleece may also be used to act as a WP cover. This layer is needed with diapers when it is not a part of the diaper itself. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: x-large;"><u>All in Two (AI2):</u> This diaper is similar to the pocket fitted diaper except the PUL/WP layer is a part of the diaper.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: x-large;"><u>All in One (AIO):</u> The AIO is just that, a diaper with all the components combined. The absorbency layers, WP layers, elastic divisions, etc. all come in one diaper. Parents can choose to add absorbency layers next to the baby's skin, although, microfiber is not recommended. This style does take longer to dry.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: x-large;"><u>Boosters/Lay in Soakers:</u> These are simply absorbency layers. Typically seen with pocket diapers or AI2's. These layers can be inserted or snapped in depending on the make and style of each individual diaper.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: x-large;"><u>Wet Bags:</u> A storage bag used to store soiled diapers and other wet garments. Typically made from PUL fabric.</span></li>
</ol><span style="font-size: x-large;">Those are the main components that make up cloth diapering. Once you get into it you'll find the fit and style that work best with you and your bundle of joy!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;">Now that you're geared up with some of the facts, the burning question is... How many do I really need?</span> <br />

There's no need to fold and pin fabric around your little one's bottom. With a plethora of styles available it is now convenient to cloth diaper your child from birth to potty training.</span></div><div style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;">From the bulk diaper manufacturers to homemade cloth diapers there really is no right or wrong way to go about it.</span></div><div style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;">I've been cloth diapering my 8 month old since six weeks of age and I must admit I truly LOVE IT! </span></div><div style="font-family: inherit; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">In my stash, I have a mixture of <a href="http://nopinsnecessary.blogspot.com/2011/09/what-does-all-jargon-mean.html">prefolds</a> to <a href="http://nopinsnecessary.blogspot.com/2011/09/what-does-all-jargon-mean.html">All-in-Two's</a> totaling about 4 dozen diapers. The reason for the large amount is</span></div><div style="font-family: inherit; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;"> #1: I make them </span></div><div style="font-family: inherit; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"> #2: I consider myself to be a full time (1st time) cloth diaper-er; only using disposables perhaps 10% of the time. </span></div><div style="font-family: inherit; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><span style="font-size: large;">Not only is it convenient to cloth diaper it is affordable as well. The total cost of diapering one child for two years using disposable diapers is approximately $3,469.92 (this includes use of disposable wipes). So let's round up to $3500. This cost breaks down to an average of $1200-$1500 per year, which is $100-$125 per month.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The cost of a cloth diaper stash for two years can realistically run anywhere from $300-$800 depending on the style and quantity. Washing cloth diapers everyday for two years will approximately cost $227.76!</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;">I know being introduced to this world can be overwhelming, but, no worries, I'll take you step by step through the benefits cloth diapering.</span></div><div style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
